Really good story of an immigrant family, trying to make ends meet in a new country, rural setting, with the limitations brought about by not being in their homeland. As the story unfolds, you get to really know each character; some you will like as people, some not so much, as is the case in real life.

This novel is about the struggles of an (extended) family of Ukrainian immigrants to Canada during the 1930s. Teodor is a salt-of-the-earth farmer who has endured prison for trying to feed his family.
